Wiegman chooses squad for play-offs against Denmark


Head coach Sarina Wiegman selected 23 players for the play-off matches against Denmark. Holland will kick-off on Friday October 5th in the Rat Verlegh Stadium in Breda. Four days later, on Tuesday October 9th, they will play the match in Denmark.

Defender Stefanie van der Gragt isn’t fully recovered yet from a thigh injury, so won’t be a part of the squad. The final squad of the Dutch national team: Loes Geurts (Göteborg FC), Lize Kop (Ajax), Sari van Veenendaal (Arsenal), Dominique Bloodworth (Arsenal), Anouk Dekker (Montpellier HSC), Merel van Dongen (Real Betis), Kika van Es (Ajax), Danique Kerkdijk (Bristol City), Desiree van Lunteren (SC Freiburg), Liza van der Most (Ajax), Siri Worm (Everton), Daniëlle van de Donk (Arsenal), Jackie Groenen (FFC Frankfurt), Inessa Kaagman (Everton), Jill Roord (Bayern München), Sherida Spitse (Vålerenga), Kelly Zeeman (Ajax), Lineth Beerensteyn (Bayern München), Ellen Jansen (Ajax), Renate Jansen (FC Twente), Lieke Martens (FC Barcelona), Vivianne Miedema (Arsenal) en Shanice van de Sanden (Olympique Lyon).

The ‘OranjeLeeuwinnen’ already faced Denmark 23 times before this match. The earlier matches ended five times with a tie, eight times with a win for Holland and ten times with a win for Denmark. During the European Championships Final 2017 Holland defeated Denmark with 4-2. The other match in the battle for the last World Cup ticket will be between Switzerland and Belgium. The winners of the first Play-off Round will between 7 and 13 November decide which team will qualify for the World Cup 2019 in France. The World Cup 2019 will be the 8th edition of a World Cup in women’s football. 24 countries will participate on this tournament.
